The excellent light output of the Petromax lamp is achieved through a simple yet fascinating principle: Petroleum is fed under pressure into a vaporizer, where the evaporating fuel reacts in a glow mantle impregnated with luminous salts to produce a bright, warm light. To ensure this principle works flawlessly, the lamp, consisting of over 200 individual parts, is still assembled by hand.
