The .300 Win. Mag. is suitable for any medium to heavy game. It is a true all-round cartridge with sufficient power for "Plains Game" or other forms of demanding hunting of hard-to-hit game. It extends the effective range of the .30-06 Springfield - shots well over the 300 m mark are certainly possible.

Introduced in 1963, the Magnum became a success story worldwide. Unlike the significantly longer Magnum cartridges available until then, the .300 Win. Mag. is short, very precise, and pleasant to shoot.

Short, handy barrels are increasingly gaining popularity among hunters. This trend is supported by the more frequent use of suppressors. Standard ammunition is designed for common barrel lengths of 600 mm. When firing standard ammunition from short barrels (420 mm to 550 mm), the following disadvantages become apparent: energy and velocity loss, limited effectiveness, pronounced muzzle flash, loud muzzle report, and increased wear on suppressors.

Therefore, RWS has developed the Short Rifle, a cartridge specifically optimized for use from short barrels. In practice, this means: shooting from short barrels without loss of performance.
