Naturally, special attention is paid to the cleaning of the barrel interior, as this is where the biggest problems are known to exist. All systems have in common that the cleaning, preservation, and degreasing of the barrel is done with wool felt elements. VFG barrel cleaners made from high-quality wool felt are produced – precisely fitting in diameter for each caliber – from natural sheep wool fibers with cellulose wool. This is done exclusively by felting and fulling the individual fibers, without any additional binding agents. Felt is a pure natural product and contains no chemical substances. It is dimensionally stable yet elastic and can be precisely punched in modern processes. This results in a brush-like surface at the punch cut made up of countless fiber ends, which, with appropriate pressure, has an optimal cleaning effect. It is highly absorbent and can hold coarse and fine dirt particles in its tangled fiber structure, thus removing them from the barrel. The excellent absorbency also allows for the uptake and storage of liquids (e.g., oil, solvents, polishing paste, etc.). Felt is a textile product and therefore harmless to firearms and extremely gentle. As a carrier for polishing agents, it helps to polish metal surfaces to a shine.
