Traditionally, hunters use beech wood tar as bait for wild boars. As with all natural substances, the composition and thus important properties also vary here. The usually high viscosity makes simple and clean application difficult. Its initially sharp smell can be bothersome multiple times, e.g., during transport in the car. However, the main annoyance is its fluctuating attracting effect, which in many cases only sets in after several days. These weaknesses were the starting point for our work: First, we developed a masking technique that reliably neutralizes the piercing smell. Then, by adding a novel mixture of plant ingredients, the attracting effect on boars and sows of all age classes was significantly increased.
