1851 Colt Navy Yank .44, a symbol of the Wild West with an engraved cylinder in .44 caliber. Samuel Colt’s favorite muzzle-loading percussion black powder revolver. The cylinder features an engraved scene depicting the II Texas Navy’s victory in the naval battle of Campeche in 1843.
The revolver has a milled slot on the underside of the grip for attaching the optional fixed wooden stock # NSS44 (Navy Shoulder Stock). The stock turns the revolver into a handy rifle.
Designed in 1847, it was adopted by the US Army as the 1851 Navy model. Despite its name, the Colt Navy was supplied in greater numbers to the land forces than to the navy. The revolver’s reputation reached England, where Samuel Colt built the only factory outside the United States in 1852. Revolvers made at this factory were called Navy London.
Construction – fire-blued steel open-top frame and loading lever. Black-oxidized, engraved 6-chamber cylinder and octagonal barrel measuring 7.37″ (1:30 twist rate). Sights: fixed front sight. Trigger guard and grip hardware made of polished brass.
Grip panels – walnut, designed to provide a secure hold. Oiling enhances the wood’s color and grain while preserving its natural appearance. The oil penetrates the wood without clogging its pores, allowing it to breathe.
Loading lever – lever-action rammer mounted on a hinge beneath the revolver’s barrel. Designed to press lead balls into the cylinder chambers.
