Baikal MP18 12/70 – robust single-barrel shotgun with a 71 cm barrel

The Baikal MP18 in 12/70 with a 71 cm barrel focuses on the essentials: a simple design, solid steel components and a plain, robust wooden stock. This Russian shotgun forgoes elaborate features and puts practical function first. The MP18 family has been known for decades for its straightforward operation and reliable construction.

Simple mechanics designed for reliable function

As a single-shot, break-action shotgun with one barrel, the Baikal MP18 has no magazine or automatic reloading mechanism. Its straightforward design and proven mechanical locking system embody a deliberately simple firearm concept. Here, less technical complexity primarily means a clear, easy-to-understand operation without unnecessary features. The manufacturer explicitly highlights the simple and reliable design as a key feature of this model series.

Solid steel and practical wooden stock

In this version, the barrel and action are made of solid steel, forming the basis of its robust construction. The simple wooden stock complements this, emphasizing the shotgun’s traditional, no-nonsense character. The focus is not on elaborate decoration, but on solid materials and practical functionality.

The combination of steel and wood makes the Baikal MP18 a classic working shotgun: straightforward, functional and reduced to the essentials. That is precisely what makes it appealing to fans of uncomplicated firearm design.

A proven concept with a long history

The Baikal MP18 is based on the IZh-18, which entered series production in 1964 in Izhevsk, Russia. Its long history and continuous development are testament to a proven single-shot concept whose fundamental strengths remain simplicity and reliability.
