The P99 model is distinguished as the first firearm produced by Walther with a polymer frame. Designed specifically for law enforcement use, it features a unique trigger with a safety called "Antistress." The trigger engages the firing chain after a few millimeters of travel, considered a safety travel. Trigger pullback can be affected by hand tremors under stress. The firing action must therefore be intentional. The firearm has an internal hammer that shows a loaded indicator with cocked firing pin. There is a decocking safety to safely release the firing pin. The firearm also has a firing pin safety and no external manual safeties. Operation is mixed action (S/A, D/A), with ambidextrous magazine release.
The magazine is double-stack with a capacity of 12 rounds.
