Da es schon eine 8x57 IR gab, war es der logische Schritt, neben der 8x57 IS mit den stärkeren 8 mm Geschossen auch eine Patrone mit Rand für Kipplaufwaffen zu schaffen, folglich ist die 8x57 IRS die Schwesterpatrone der randlosen 8x57 IS - beide wurden 1905 eingeführt. GECO bietet drei Laborierungen mit dem 12,0 g GECO Teilmantel Geschoss, dem 12,7 g schweren GECO Plus und dem bleifreien GECO ZERO mit 9,0 g an. Die GECO Bonding Technologie steht für eine extrem feste Lötverbindung des Geschosskerns mit dem Geschossmantel. Das GECO Plus pilzt dadurch fast ohne Verlust von Gesschossteilen auf und schlägt selbst bei schwerem Wild und Knochentreffern zuverlässig durch. Die feste Verbindung von Bleikern und Mantel sorgt zudem für sauberes Wildbret, da kaum Rückstände zurückbleiben.
