La poignée sert avant tout de repère ergonomique. Elle peut aider à replacer la main de soutien au même endroit à chaque fois. Selon la taille de la main et la position de tir, on peut la saisir à pleine main ou l’utiliser plutôt comme un point d’appui bref pour tirer et se repérer.
